This holiday season, Gaughan Companies is pleased to once again support Food for the Poor, the largest international relief and development organization in the United States.  Sharing a portion of our company’s success with Food for the Poor is something that unites the entire Gaughan Companies team and spreads excitement about the relief we can offer through our donations.

“Hope means hoping when things are hopeless, or it is no virtue at all.
And faith means believing the incredible, or it is no virtue at all.”

G.K. Chesterton

Founded in 1982, Food for the Poor is responsible for providing more than $9 billion in international aid and building nearly 80,000 homes for people in need. They are attempting to tackle numerous issues plaguing the 17 nations its mission serves, including: poverty, lack of clean and safe drinking water, hunger, starvation, and disaster relief.  In 2011, Food for the Poor’s budget expenditures were divided as follows: 96.3% to programs, 2.9% to fundraising efforts, and only 0.8% to administration. With numbers like those, it’s easy to see why they are making such a tremendous impact in the lives of so many people around the globe.

One reason we love giving to Food for the Poor is their unique way of allowing donors to see what their money will actually buy.  They offer a gift catalog that can be accessed online at www.foodforthepoor.org/catalog.  Our staff had a wonderful and rewarding experience selecting the target of our collective donations. This Holiday Season Gaughan Companies is proud to be donating:

  • One ton of rice and beans
  • Four sets of shirts, pants, and shoes for orphaned children
  • One year’s worth of complete nutrition for two children
  • One goat – to provide a family with milk
  • Nine piglets for three families
  • 100 chicks for five families
  • One water pump that will serve an entire village
  • One dairy cow for a family

Pretty cool, right?

All of us at Gaughan Companies want to wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.  And in the spirit of the season, we urge you to take some time out of your hectic schedule to visit the Food for the Poor website – or any other charitable organization’s site – and make a donation.  Whether you donate your money, your time, or your expertise, any amount and every little bit can make such a difference.
